The Website Whiz course is broken down into 6 modules, each focused on a different step of the website creation process, and will have 2-4 lessons each. Lessons will be taught using a combination of video tutorials, screencasts, workbooks and templates. Go through the course at your own pace!
Module 1: Getting Started
Everything you need to know to set up and install your WordPress website. We’ll walk you through basic WordPress functionality to get you familiar with using WordPress including how to create and edit pages and posts, how to install a theme or plugin, and basic settings configuration.
Module 2: Planning
Every great website begins with a plan. In this unit, you’ll learn which components should be included in a website, and how to plan your website based on its purpose and goals. You’ll decide on what pages to include and how to structure them within your site, as well define the steps you want visitors to take through your website.
Module 3: Content Strategy
Once your website plan is in place you will develop a content strategy. Here, you will define a purpose for every page, develop a list of keywords to include for better SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and incorporate them into the various types of content that you’ll create. I’ll go through special considerations for the various types of content you might be using, including text, images, products, and videos.
Module 4: Branding & Design
This unit focuses on developing an effective brand (or updating/strengthening your existing brand) and designing your website to engage your clients. Colour theory, typography and imagery will be discussed and you will create your own mood board to tie together all of the visual elements of your brand! You’ll learn best practices for the layout of your website and different types of content to design a user-friendly experience for visitors of your site.
Module 5: Putting it All Together
In unit 5 you’ll learn how to add features such as lead generators, contact pages, opt-ins and Call to Action items to increase engagement and conversion on your website, and make it easier for potential clients to work with you.
Module 6: Launching Your Site
In the last unit, we’ll cover everything you need to do before you launch your site including testing the performance and optimizing the files. I’ll also show you how to connect your website to Google Console and Google My Business!
